Why Should Fido go to the Vet?
Posted on Dec 07, 2008 under animal health | No CommentWe all have that special someone in our life. That little ball of energy overly excited to see us home from the grocery store. The excited bliss and pawing at the glass upon seeing us approach the door. The second we walk in the door the tail wags so much it takes over the rear half, rendering it unable to move in any position contrary to the tail. For many, that special someone is a regular part of the family, regardless of his or her four legged nature.
Fido and Fifi are the perfect reasons to go for a walk, play fetch for hours, and relieve stress. As they are the perfect addition to any family, it is important to keep them happy and healthy, like any of your children. Sure we all listen to them when they want something – it is apparent to us when they are speaking, but can you figure out when they are telling you something is wrong? When they have an infection, illness or disease? Most of us cannot and that is why we have Vets.
A yearly exam is the key to success when it comes to pets. Liken this to your child’s exams. Vaccinations, physicals, questions – the standard doctor drill should be expected and if not given, request it. Your veterinarian is highly trained, and simply by listening to your responses, running tests and giving your dog a physical he or she can point out any potential problems your little Fido is having.
Extreme changes in your loved one are the other reason to go to the vet. Changes in stool, urine, sleep/lethargy, and eating patterns may indicate a medical problem and the sooner it gets attention the better. Vets can provide you with several options so you never have to feel like you cannot provide for your pet.
Fido deserves the long, happy life you want him to have. A good relationship with a vet can not only guarantee a healthy animal, but it can also leave you a happy animal.
